In Partnership with UNICEF and close coordination with the Puntland Ministry of Health, Horn Vision is the first national NGO to pilot and implement Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) project in Nugal Region of Somalia when it was first had to be implemented in Puntland. The project which started on 1st August 2012 ended in Dec 2013 as a pilot project in Puntland targeting five villages in Nugal region to achieve total sanitation including the eradication of open defecation.
HV provided technical assistance to the municipality of Bossaso in the development of the town Sanitation Promotion Strategy and further helps the municipality develop projects proposals in this regard. In Dec 20018, HV supported and participated in sanitation campaigns on garbage collection and cleaning coastal vicinities of the town.
Based on community need assessment Horn Vision initiated and developed Ufeyn Water Improvement Project which would benefit over 50,000 beneficiaries through provision of permanent water by developing a sustainable supply system from Ufeyn natural spring situated 12km from the town. The project was funded by UNICEF through Relief International (RI), HV took a role of local implementing partner. This project improved the Ufeyn water infrastructure by replacing the old 3’ GI pipeline laid in 1958 with 6’UPVC pressure pipes and construction of 2 additional water tanks and 7 delivery points.
